Windrush Day Celebrations · 22 June 2025 ·

We support community groups, diverse creatives & organisations (e.g. museums, galleries, schools, colleges, promoters and sponsors) in the city of Sheffield to develop and host events (e.g. Windrush / Black History Month). We also provide free educational resources and maintain a listing of events.

Story

The UK government considers Windrush Day a culturally significant, inspirational and important national celebratory event that helps to reinforce social cohesion

The African Heritage Culture Forum supports the city of Sheffield to celebrate African Heritage & Culture. We deliver our support in a number of ways:

1/ By providing free learning resources (to schools and via public information boards) that share authentic knowledge and understanding of Black History and African heritage culture is actively (and prominently) promoted.

2/ Engaging with key local partners to organise celebratory ‘civic’ events.

3/ Through publicising insights into the lasting influence and valued contributions made by African heritage/Black British people to the UK’s culture and wider economy.

With your help, we can ensure the 2025 (77th anniversary) celebrations for Sheffield Windrush Day is a great success for the city and its communities. Your kind donations will be applied towards:

- the production of a set of new / replacement Windrush storyboards; and

- hosting a dedicated poetry workshop in August 2025 (in support of the Sheffield Young Poets Award competition for schools).
