Being a charity that supports the military community through offering employment opportunities to ex-Service men and women, November, the month of Remembrance, is a particularly poignant time of the year for SkillForce.
Many of our Service veterans saw active service in conflict zones, putting their own life in harms way for the protection and freedom of others. Having once served their country, these heroes are now serving local communities, instilling positive values and good characteristics into children and young people so they can be happy, thrive and prosper.
Through the Prince William Award, we champion these values and characteristics that young people need to lead successful and happy lives, including confidence, resilience, teamwork and personal communications skills. However, the month of Remembrance gives our former Armed Forces personnel the chance to explain to children why it is so important to remember those who have fallen. It also enables them to draw on their own life experiences and talk to children about important values and principles like courage, optimism, listening, self-belief, empathy and compassion.
We believe every child can benefit from developing a set of positive personal values to live their life by. So who better to learn from, and be a role model for children to look up to, than former Service men and women, who exemplify these values and who are passionate about sharing them.
You can help Service veterans to instil good values and positive characteristics in children and young people so they can aim high and achieve their potential.
