Story
In September 2024, Sadia G. arrived in Oman with high hopes. She had won a USAID-funded scholarship from the U.S. Department of State to attend Middle East College, an institution with ties to the University of Coventry and the University of Breda. She is completing her first undergraduate year covered in honors: top grades in every subject, a nationwide speech award, a successful research internship, and an initiative to teach remedial classes to her fellow international students.
Then, in spring 2025, her hopes were dashed. The American administration eliminated USAID, and her scholarship was cancelled too late for her to apply to other universities. Without assistance, she will be deported to Afghanistan--and into the jaws of the Taliban--in June 2025.
Afghan Female Student Outreach has obtained $12,000 in pledges to help Sadia remain in Oman. With another $10,000, she can make applications for transfer admissions and scholarship in the fall and remain safe from detention by the Taliban until she finds a new academic home.
Your investment in Sadia's education will not only save a life. It will also help an intelligent, resourceful young woman forge her future and return, one day, to help rebuild her country. Thank you for your generosity.
