Saffron Screen is an award-winning, not-for-profit, independent cinema, supported by an army of local volunteers. Our mission is to ensure cinema is accessible to the whole community and we are proud to have earned a very special place in the hearts of Uttlesford residents.
Our professional auditorium boasts a full size screen, 200 cinema seats, Dolby Digital surround sound and both 35mm and digital projection equipment and we are delighted to welcome over 40,000 ticket holders annually.
For the past 14 years, Saffron Screen has enjoyed serving and employing the people of Uttlesford. We screen everything from mainstream and family films to foreign language and art house cinema. Since 2012 we have enhanced our busy programme with live broadcasts of theatre, ballet, opera, music and art from around the world.
This is community cinema at its best. Friendly, good service, good ice-cream... the programme embraces mainstream cinema and arts
Accessibility - As part of our commitment to accessibility, we regularly screen films with audio-description for the blind and partially sighted and have installed a hearing loop for the hard of hearing. The cinema is also fully accessible to wheelchairs.
Ticket and refreshment prices are kept low for the benefit of all, we offer a range of gluten and lactose free snacks and parking is free.
The best team and the best family entertainment in the world, it is not just cinema; it's cinema with people you know, cinema with friends and neighbours, cinema with a heart
Local & Green - We're also proud to say that many of our suppliers are local and we encourage our audience to recycle after every screening.
Outreach - Over the last few years we have developed a varied outreach programme including dementia and autism-friendly screenings, workshops for all ages and Pop-up Saffron Screen, which takes the cinema out to the more rural parts of our community.
In 2015, we hosted a free outdoor screening of Grease, which was attended by 4,000 local people. In 2019 we hosted our first Rainbow Film Festival to celebrate LGBTQ+ cinema.
Fantastic local cinema run by enthusiasts and with an excellent programme of films and other events.
We recognise that this is a difficult time for everyone and wish our audience and community the very best. When the time is right for us to do so, we look forward to reopening and serving you once again. In the meantime, if you would like to donate, we are very grateful for your support.
