Story
Sam Lipman has been part of BDMLR for 15 years, since the age of 18 when she started volunteering in Scotland and the North East of England working her way down the country to become our Area Coordinator for the Thames region in 2018.
Soon after Sam took over as AC she was involved in monitoring a wandering beluga in the Thames Estuary, this started a spate of cetacean sightings in the area, with a humpback whale in 2019, two live stranded common dolphins in 2020, and a minke whale in 2021. Sam started fundraising for equipment for the area and worked hard to help create dolphin rescue rafts to be used on mud flats and in marshy areas, and in late 2021 she was part of the team training the London Fire & Rescue Service in marine mammal rescue.
Sam loved whales, especially orca, so much so that she helped set up BDMLR Orca Aware, an information group for educational and scientific material on animals in the wild and in captivity. Sam also joined the Dolphinaria-Free Europe group along with colleagues at BDMLR, working to end the keeping of cetaceans in captivity, another cause which she was truly passionate about.
Sam never stopped caring for animals and people alike, your donation will go towards live saving equipment specifically for the River Thames area, and will be dedicated to Sam.
