Story

Cycling the perimeter of the 4 home nations 2026!

You’d think I’d be sensible and use four wheels, but no. I’ve decided to ride the perimeter of each of the four home nations on two wheels, powered only by my own two legs (yes… not even a motor!).

My name is Sandy Bond, and I’m raising money for Outfit Moray - a brilliant charity that gives young people the chance to get adventurous outdoors, build confidence, and discover what they’re capable of.

I first experienced Outfit Moray during my primary and secondary school years, and the impact has stayed with me ever since. Through Outfit Moray, I learned how to build a bike (all the way back at my primary school options day) and experienced outdoor climbing for the first time down at Cummingston on the Moray Coast. Those moments mattered. They helped shape who I am today, age 21, and set me on a path that’s led to my current work as a bike mechanic and climbing instructor.

in 2024, I pushed myself hard by cycling 370 miles from south to north Scotland in just 22 hours, with only four hours of rest. That challenge showed me what’s possible and inspired me to go much further.

Now I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet: cycling the full perimeter of Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

In total, that’s 5,014 miles (8,022km) - roughly the same as cycling from Portugal to Estonia and back again - with a staggering 234,950 feet (71,612m) of climbing, the equivalent of ascending Mount Everest more than eight times!!

I’ll be tackling each nation across the year:

🚴 Northern Ireland – 2 days (3–4 March)

448 miles | 18,500 ft

🚴 Scotland – 7 days (24–30 May)

1,632 miles | 78,600 ft

🚴 Wales – 4 days (16–19 June)

808 miles | 47,725 ft

🚴 England – 10 days (10–19 August)

2,126 miles | 90,075 ft

I’m doing this so that more young people in Moray can access the same opportunities that helped shape my life. Chances to explore, gain skills, grow confidence, and find their own sense of adventure.

👉 If Outfit Moray has ever helped you, inspired you, or if you believe young people deserve these opportunities, please consider donating.

Every contribution, big or small, helps Outfit Moray continue their life-changing work, and it will also help motivate me as I ride.

Thank you so much for your support, it genuinely means a lot.
