Story
Sarai’s Light Foundation was established in loving memory of Doyinsola “Sarai” Talabi, whose life and light continue to inspire everything we do.
Sarai was just 17 when she passed away from Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC), a rare and highly aggressive form of kidney cancer that predominantly affects young people with sickle cell trait. Our experience showed us just how little awareness and understanding there is surrounding RMC, despite the importance of greater awareness, earlier recognition and continued research.
We created Sarai’s Light Foundation so that Sarai’s story could become a light for others. Our work focuses on raising awareness of RMC and its connection to sickle cell trait, supporting education and research, and helping individuals and families affected by the disease feel less alone.
We aim to fund and support research into RMC, sickle cell trait and related conditions, while helping make research and information more accessible. Through campaigns, educational resources, events and community engagement, we want more people, including healthcare professionals and affected communities, to know that RMC exists and understand its connection to sickle cell trait.
As the Foundation grows, we also aim to develop meaningful support for individuals and families affected by RMC, create opportunities for connection and signpost people to trusted information, services and resources.
RMC is rare, which means awareness, research and resources remain limited. Every donation helps us build the work needed to change that. Your support can help us develop awareness and educational resources, organise community and fundraising events, support research initiatives and build resources for individuals and families affected by RMC.
We are at the beginning of our journey as a charity, and your support will help us turn our ambitions into meaningful, sustainable action.
Sarai was so much more than her diagnosis, and this Foundation exists because of the life she lived, not simply because of the illness she faced. Her light continues through every conversation started, every person who learns about RMC, every family who feels seen and every step taken towards greater research, understanding and hope.
Whether you donate, fundraise or simply share our work with someone else, you are helping us carry Sarai’s light forward. Thank you for being part of her legacy.
