Facing Africa funds teams of volunteer surgeons to perform complex facial reconstructive surgery on the victims of the disease Noma, a ravaging gangrenous infection affecting the face. Sufferers are mainly young children, caught in a vicious circle of extreme poverty and chronic malnutrition.

Story

Last week the Nordic Medical Centre (NMC) hospital in Ethiopia contacted me with details and a photo of a 2-month old girl called Baby Helen. As you can see from the photo, Baby Helen has an enlarged head caused by a Teratoma tumour . She needs urgent life-saving and complex surgery that is not available in Ethiopia.

Tentative plans are being made at Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital to remove the tumour and save Baby Helens life. A team of 50 people will be led by Professor David Dunaway, one of the leading cranio-facial surgeons in the world.

Facing Africa is co-ordinating the campaign together with the Nordic Medical Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to save Baby Helens life by raising funds to send her to the UK which will only be possible with the help of your generosity and compassion.

Thank you for you help in saving baby Helen.
