Save our clock - Fairfield Moravian Church Droylsden

Our present clock tower was built 1786 had been ringing out across the settlement for over 230 years. In 2022, the clock stopped working. We need your help to raise money needed to repair and restore our clock so it can serve the local community.

Story

Fairfield Moravian Church is situated on a unique grade 2 listed settlement in Droylsden Greater Manchester. Our present clock tower was built 1786 and the congregation raised £168 to buy a clock and church bell. It has chimed on the hour and is an important heartbeat of the community showing the time on four clock faces in the cupola on the top of the church.

The current clock was thought to have been replaced in 1830 and made by William Groves of Leeds. It has also been reconditioned in 1955 but has been ringing out across the settlement for over 230 years and is an important part of the Moravian settlements heritage.

In 2022, the clock stopped working and although it still chimes, has been missed by the locals and congregation. We rely soley on fundraising and public donations to repair the clock and we have set up our 'save our clock' fundraising campaign.

We need your help to raise money towards our aim of completely repairing and restoring our clock so it can serve the moravian church congregation, settlement and locality.

Any donations will be gratefully received to keep this piece of history available to everyone.
