Story
Voxter House is more than just a building.
For many across Shetland, it holds years of memories — childhood trips, outdoor learning, laughter, connection, and community. It is a place where people have come together, grown, and found space to simply be.
Today, Voxter House needs our help.
Recent inspections have identified significant issues with the building, including urgent roof repairs. While the roof is the most immediate concern, it is only part of a wider need to protect and sustain the building as a whole.
There are essential works required to keep Voxter House safe, functional, and open to the community — including structural upkeep, electrics, and septic systems. These are not always areas that grant funding will fully support, but they are critical to keeping the building running.
As trustees, we are committed to doing everything we can to protect this space — not just fixing what is broken, but ensuring Voxter House remains available for future generations.
We are actively exploring grant funding, which may cover a significant portion of the major works, particularly the roof. This fundraiser is to help bridge the gap and support the additional essential areas that cannot be funded elsewhere.
We are aiming to raise £35,000, but truly — every contribution matters. Whether it is £5 or £500, it all helps move us forward and keeps this place alive.
This is about more than repairs.
It’s about:
• Preserving a valued community space
• Protecting the structure and future of the building
• Preventing the loss of a rural wellbeing environment
• Supporting youth and outdoor education
• Keeping Voxter House open and accessible for all
If Voxter House has ever been part of your life — or if you believe in protecting spaces like this — we would be incredibly grateful for your support.
Please consider donating, and just as importantly, sharing this page with others.
Together, we can keep Voxter House standing.
A place like Voxter House cannot easily be replaced — once it’s gone, it’s gone. Let’s not let that happen.
With thanks and gratitude,
Jim & Jayed & all at Voxter Outdoor Centre.
