Help our hens stop laying eggs - it could save their life!

Laying eggs takes a huge toll on a hens body and they often succumb to reproductive illnesses and die far too young. We can help prevent this by giving them an implant that will stop them laying eggs and allow them to live a long and happy life!

Our mission is to rescue and provide a safe haven for farmed animals that have been neglected or mistreated. Through spending time with these beautiful individuals, each with their own personalities, we hope it will rebuild the way we have been conditioned to view farmed animals.

Story

Through selective breeding humans have made hens go from laying around 15 eggs per year to 300 per year! This is a huge drain on their bodies, it takes a lot of energy and calcium to produce an egg not to mention the pain of pushing one out every day or two. And that's without complications such as a soft shell egg, the egg breaking inside them causing infections or being egg bound where the egg is stuck. Many hens prolapse due to the excessive pushing required to get these huge eggs out of their small bodies (see photo in the gallery).

This drain on their body means they don't put the energy into making healthy feathers or healthy muscle mass as they should....it all goes into maing eggs. The result of this is they often get very weak bones, lose weight, lose feathers/don't grow them back and sadly develop reproductive illnesses that are usually not curable and sadly pass far too early.

Our beautiful hens have been rescued from the egg industry but they still aren't free from their genetics. We want to give them this freedom. It's a huge expense but it's one we can no longer deprioritise, our hens deserve to be fully free and given the best chance of a long and healthy life.

This implant would literally be life saving for our hens! They will start to thrive even more, putting all that energy back into their own bodies, how it should be!

Each implant costs £70 and ontop of that their is a prescription fee and a fee to have the implant put in. The implant last up to 6 months so this is something we will need to do for each chicken twice a year. If we can raise our target funds this will be enough to have all our hens implanted for the whole year and some more left over to go towards next years implant.

Please donate what you can to help us achieve this goal - it will be life changing for our hens. Any vets that are able to help us save on the expense of prescriptions or implanting the hens please do get in touch, this would be so helpful and we'd be so grateful!
