Waterwitch is a much loved and used rowing Gig, she sadly suffered damage during the covid lockdown and has numerous cracks to her planking and removable components and she now needs our help... a pretty substantial restoration.
(we did it - thank you so much, and on September 3rd she arrived in Boat House 4, to begin her restoration).
Waterwitch is a 75 year old wooden rowing Gig, Waterwitch was designed by Frank Morgan Giles and built by Morgan Giles Ltd. of Teignmouth, Devon. She has been an integral part of Sea Ranger's history and has provided Sea Rangers with a core vessel for learning traditional rowing skills. We want Waterwitch to be back in the water and for her to be used for decades to come.
Waterwitch is a rowing Gig built for girls and women, to be used by girls and women and now will be restored by two talented women boat builders.
We have now moved her to Ship to Shore for her restoration, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, so we are keen to have donations as soon as possible.
We are also now fundraising for Ship to Shore to finish the job, and would like the funds so they can prepare and paint her when the restoration is complete.
All donors will be invited to see Waterwitch at the iconic Thames Traditional Boat Festival 2024 (p.s. we are not offering to pay for your entry ticket!).
It is possible to send a cheque if you prefer. It should be made out to 'Sea Ranger Association', and posted to Tessa Bullimore, Sea Ranger Financial Officer, 15 Ashurst rd, Tadworth, Surrey, KT20 5ET.
