We are saving seeds for the planet’s future
Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst, Sussex is the largest wild plant seed bank in the world where we collect, conserve, research and share wild seeds from around the globe.
This year we are celebrating 25 years of protecting biodiversity and restoring ecosystems.
“Life begins with seeds - and so does our best chance to save it. The Millennium Seed Bank is not just a vault. It is a beacon of hope and international cooperation, at a time when we have never needed it more. I’m proud to support the Millennium Seed Bank, and I’m asking you to join me by making a donation today. Thanks to an incredibly generous Kew supporter, your donation will now be doubled, making twice the impact to protect our natural world.” Cate Blanchett, Wakehurst Ambassador
Kew's Millennium Seed Bank is fighting back for nature
As the climate crisis accelerates, more species are at risk than ever before. The Millennium Seed Bank is uniquely placed to support efforts to protect and restore wild plants and habitats.
In the past 25 years, we’ve collected 2.5 billion seeds from over 40,000 plant species and supported over 100 UK restoration projects with seeds, plants and expertise. As threats to plant life grow, our response must become more urgent - the next 25 years are critical if we’re to safeguard our planet’s future.
By studying seeds, we unlock the tools we need to fight climate change and other threats. By safeguarding seeds, we guarantee that current and future generations will be able to rebuild and restore our ecosystems.
