Story
We are saving seeds for the planet’s future
Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst, Sussex is the largest wild plant seed bank in the world where we collect, conserve, research and share wild seeds from around the globe.
This year we are celebrating 25 years of protecting biodiversity and restoring ecosystems.
In the past 25 years, we’ve collected 2.5 billion seeds from over 40,000 plant species and supported over 100 UK restoration projects with seeds, plants and expertise. As threats to plant life grow, our response must become more urgent - the next 25 years are critical if we’re to safeguard our planet’s future.
By studying seeds, we unlock the tools we need to fight climate change and other threats. By safeguarding seeds, we guarantee that current and future generations will be able to rebuild and restore our ecosystems.
