Story
Ronn was admitted with symptoms of colic (lameness and loss of appetite). However, after controlling her gastrointestinal disorder, our vets noticed an unusual swelling on the left side of her head and left shoulder. Before Ronn's Mahout (owner) contacted STEF, she had been given an injection to relieve the pain and swelling. After further investigation, our vets determined that the swelling was a result of an infection at the injection site. This had caused an abscess and build up of gas. It was decided that our vets needed to operate to drain the abscess and trim off any dead tissue to prevent the spread of gangrene which could be fatal. This was a life saving procedure for Ronn.
Thankfully Ronn's condition is no longer critical and she is in recovery. However, given the extent of the tissue damage her recovery may take up to a year, as the wound needs to be fully healed. During this time she must stay at the STEF Veterinary Centre in Thailand.
This is an unusual case, as most of the Veterinary Centre's patients do not stay more than a few months. Not only have we already funded the cost of the operation but we now need to fund Ronn's extended stay. It is estimated this could cost around £1,000 a month, and will cover treatment, food, medication, and staff salaries.
Ronn has lived with her mahout family since she was 12, and they will be with her for comfort and support, and may loose out out on some income because of this.
So, please spare whatever you can to help Ronn recover.
As well as donating, why not set up your own fundraising page for Ronn as well? You can do this easily through Just Giving or on social media.
