Celebrating 50 Years of SAVTE: Join Our Fundraising Challenge!

Our project began in 1974 when Sheffield steelworkers decided to help their Yemeni colleagues learn to speak English, volunteering to visit them at home so as to accommodate their shift patterns. This extraordinary act of kindness changed people’s lives, enabling them to build new lives, new communities and new careers in Sheffield.

For half a century this tradition has continued, and to this day SAVTE still trains volunteers to support people with the everyday English language learning they need. Each year, our volunteers’ acts of kindness reach 1700+ people, transforming communities and improving people’s lives.

As we celebrate this incredible 50-year heritage, we invite you to be part of a special fundraising drive, centred around the number 50.

Why Your Support Matters: Your participation and donations are crucial. All UK charities are struggling to find the funding they need during the cost of living crisis and the funds you raise will enable us to continue providing vital services to Sheffield communities.

How to Get Involved:

1. Select Your Challenge: We've created some guidlines and a list of active, creative and engaging activities, from running 50 kilometres to baking and selling 50 cakes. Please read the guidelines by clicking here and then choose an activity that resonates with you or create your own.

2. Create Your JustGiving Page: Link your fundraising effort to our campaign by setting up your page on JustGiving. Share your personal connection to SAVTE and your motivation for supporting our cause.

3. Spread the Word: Use your social networks, email, and word-of-mouth to promote your challenge. The more people you reach, the greater the impact we can make together.
