Story

Students like Montel, Jaydon and Kai don't normally get the chance to race offshore.

They come from an inner city school from a tough part of North London. It's an urban environment, far in every way from the sea and the rush of ocean racing.

But thanks to the Greig City Academy sailing programme, they've put their lives on a whole new course. They beat the odds and achieved the incredible feat of being the first state school crew to complete the Fastnet - twice!

Thanks to their inspirational teacher, Jon Holt, these students have enjoyed everything sailing has to offer: the thrills, the hard knocks and the teamwork.

They worked hard and learned life skills that are getting them ahead on and off the water.

Without the programme, Montel, Jaydon, Kai and their classmates would never have got afloat. They simply would not have had the opportunities that other young people have: the chance to sail, to race, to win.

Can you help fund the class of 2022, creating extraordinary opportunities for more inner city students?

The Scaramouche Sailing Trust is raising £45,000 needed to run Greig City Academy's sailing programme next year.

Please give £10 per month, or whatever you can afford. Your donation will change lives.

About the charity

We fund the trailblazing Greig City Academy: The UK’s only inner-city school sailing programme competing at national level. This programme transforms the lives of inner-city London students. They were the first state school to do the Fastnet race & the youngest on the Round the Island.
