Story

Diversity Role Models are raising money for our LGBTQ+ Anti-Bullying Workshop Schools Hardship Fund, so that ALL schools across the UK can get access to the education, support and resources needed to help put an end to LGBTQ+ bullying.

Please donate today, so that the next generation can grow up free from LGBTQ+ bullying...

Our aim is to be able to support young people, schools, and educators to better understand the LGBTQ+ experience, by providing any school that want it the opportunity of engaging in an LGBTQ+ Anti-Bullying Workshop. At the heart of every workshop is the chance to interact directly with an LGBTQ+ person, or an LGBTQ+ ally Role Model and hear their story delivered in an age and educationally-appropriate way. By creating these personal face-to-face interactions, those who may be considered 'different' are humanised, and acceptance of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are fostered and encouraged.

Why we've launched this fundraiser...

With multiple organisations, national and international agencies currently reporting a rise in homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and LGBTQ+ hate crimes in the UK, it is now more important than ever to counter this increase through LGBTQ+ education and the promotion of compassion, understanding and empathy.

We are also aware that schools are under a large amount of financial stress, and that many education establishments may not have the budget available to be able to book essential LGBTQ+ anti-bullying workshops. These are often the schools in challenging areas that would benefit the most from such vital EDI support and resources. It is for this reason that we have launched the Schools Hardship Fund, so that schools who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it can receive invaluable anti-bullying workshops, support and resources for FREE!

Why Diversity Role Models are so important...

Meeting LGBTQ+ people face-to-face is crucial for combatting LGBTQ+ bullying and building empathy and inclusion. It lets young people see that LGBTQ+ people are really no different to them, by humanising them and listening to their stories. Importantly, it also lets young people who are gay, lesbian, bi or trans (or are questioning their sexuality and/or gender identity, or who come out as LGBTQ+ in the future) know that there are other people out there like them, and that they're not alone. It offers a vision of a future where they can be happy, included, and part of society.

How our workshops work...

Our LGBTQ+ Anti-Bullying Workshops are designed for educators and young people across all age ranges and are run by our expert facilitators - many of whom come from an education background. They are accompanied by one of our vetted, DBS checked, and trained volunteers, who come from across the LGBTQ+ and ally community and represent a diversity of experiences. Our Volunteer Role Models sharing their lived experiences is at the heart of every workshop session, and provides workshop attendees with invaluable insight, understanding and compassion for LGBTQ+ individuals and families who may be different to themselves.

Please donate today to help us put an end to LGBTQ+ bullying

Every £1,000 raised will help us reach another school that needs support in ending LGBTQ+ bullying. £1,000 allows for a whole school approach - where every young person within a Primary school, or an entire year group within a Secondary school can access an impactful, compassionate and inclusive anti-bullying workshop, along with additional resources to help teachers embed diversity and inclusivity into the curriculum.

Help us reach 300,000 young people

Diversity Role Models is proud to announce it has now reached over 200,000 young people, furthering its mission to create an education system where every young person knows they are valued and supported, whoever they are. Over the past academic year we have accelerated our delivery engagement by 25%, leading to this significant milestone in our growth as a charity. But we don't want to stop there!

We have bold and ambitious plans to sustain and grow Diversity Role Models to reach 300,000 young people and school staff members in the coming years - but we need your help! We can only achieve this target with financial support, which is why we have launched this fundraiser: to help us reach the young people who are often left-behind as their schools don't have the funding.

DONATE TODAY AND HELP US SUPPORT AS MANY SCHOOLS AS POSSIBLE.
