We train teachers and secondary students to become changemakers, and help schools and organisations to become sustainable. We advise governments on sustainability education, partner with UNESCO and co-chair Our Shared World. Together with you we can turn that reach and expertise into real impact.

Story

The SEEd Young Changemakers programme is a year-long, transformative learning programme for young people in secondary education that equips them with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to achieve a sustainable present and future. This process helps them to develop their sense of agency for achieving sustainability and dealing with climate change. They choose, design and lead their own sustainability projects, whilst learning about systems, how to make change happen, team-work, and other soft skills.

The programme is based on two decades of research and has been tried and tested at Wellington College for four years. One of the unique features of the programme is the connection to environmental and community organisations, businesses and local authorities, helping students to see sustainability in practice.

Projects include: Improving biodiversity and rewilding on the school site, growing food, reducing litter and waste, renewable energy in the school and reducing energy use, setting up a swap shop at lunchtime, secondhand uniforms and sports clothes recycling,

“The resources for teaching Young Changemakers are amazing.”

“What a fantastic programme, so much energy in that room, a pleasure to be there.”

Here is how donation help SEEd to help young people/schools:

£15 funds our inspirational and informatiive newsletters for a school for a whole year

£100 sponsors a team of 4 to 5 young people in their sustainability project

£500 subsidises a state school to be part of Young Changemakers for one year

£2500 to subsidises 5 schools working together in a local cluster

£5,000 pays for a local coordinator working with the cluster of schools and their local community collaborators

We know from our Attitudes to Sustainability survey which over 3000 young people have taken part in that young people…

- want to know how to live sustainably

- want to learn how to make a difference but do not feel empowered to do so

- are mostly aware of the enormity of the issues

- are unclear about the systems and interrelationships that drive the issues

- find that media is a powerful influence, but schools are still important sources of learning for them

- Learning for sustainability (rather than 'about' sustainability) includes values, capabilities, knowledge and skills for life!
