We are Future First, a social mobility charity on a mission to equip every state school and college in the UK with a thriving and engaged community of volunteers that empowers young people with the skills and confidence to reach their potential and contribute fully to society.

Story

Half of 15-year-olds in the UK don't think someone like them can succeed.

Young people are unaware of the wide range of jobs available out there and many students leave school not knowing what they want to do. For those who do have a career path in mind, plenty don’t know anyone in the job they’d like to do. They cannot see a path to success.

Introducing the See It, Be It Club

Imagine if they could meet a role model who could show them a world of career choices they didn’t even know existed. Now imagine if that role model was relatable - someone from their town, who had attended their school, who had sat in their classroom - someone just like them.

We don’t need to imagine.

For 15 years Future First has inspired almost half a million children across the UK by introducing them to relatable role models through an engaged community of former students and local employee volunteers acting as their mentors. We believe that if they can see it, they can be it!

We are the only social mobility charity in the UK with over 120,000 role models registered and ready to share their stories.

Bringing the See It, Be It ethos to those who need it most

Right now, 30 schools in the West Midlands are in desperate need of our support.

- 25 schools have more than 50% of their students living below the poverty line.

- Some schools in Dudley and Wolverhampton report 75% of students on free school meals with families living on less than £7,400 a year.

- Despite there being statutory expectations that careers programmes will showcase a variety of role models, careers leads in these schools receive just £2 per student per year for careers education.

We need your support to help us build a sustainable, long-term network of relatable role models for each of these schools.

Our 12-week Alumni Fast Track Programme trains career leads in these underfunded schools, equipping them with the skills, tools and confidence they need to connect their students with relatable role models—alumni who once sat in their classrooms and now thrive in the world of work.

This isn’t charity for a day. It’s a lifetime shift. Once established, alumni networks grow year after year, giving students consistent access to people who can say:

"I’ve been where you are. And you can be where I am."

Our goal

We have already secured 50% of the funding we need - so 15 schools could receive help from September. We are now raising up to another £40,000 to ensure the second cohort of schools can also be supported.

Every £2,650 raised brings the See It, Be It Club to one more school, connecting up to 1,000 young people with role models who prove that success is possible for 'someone like me'.

That means that for every 40 people donating £50 (plus Gift Aid), we can open the door to a 1,000 brighter futures.

By supporting the See It, Be It Club, you can ensure that every young person, no matter where they’re born, has the chance to imagine, believe, and achieve.

How you can help

- Donate £2,650 - Fund a school for a year and change the trajectory of a 1,000 lives

- Donate £50 - Your piece of the puzzle. When 40 people each give £50, together you’ll fund an entire school

- Donate your own amount - Every donation brings us closer to reaching the next school and inspiring more young people
