Story
The Special Hockey International tournament is the largest Special Hockey tournament bringing together teams from around the world. It attracts more than 70 teams including representation from North America and Europe. Each team plays 4 matches over 3 days with an opening ceremony and banquet and disco at the end of the tournament. It's a chance to meet and play against players from across the world and to see the sights . An unforgettable experience for any player where they are the stars. It uniquely brings the teams together as they all try do their best but also show amazing sportsmanship so that others enjoy the experience as much as they do.
Werewolves of London based in Streatham, London wants to take two teams to the tournament next year being hosted in Toronto, Canada in March 2019. It's set to be a very special tournament as it's the 25th anniversary and likely to be bigger and better than ever. Due to the lack of other Special Hockey teams in the UK, the tournaments are the highlight of the hockey season and an opportunity for players of all abilities to play against another team in a match.
The problem for many of the players that want to go is the cost. Werewolves of London would like to ensure as many players as possible can experience this event by subsidising the players air fares and covering the cost of the transport to and from the rinks. This is only possible with your help. Please consider donating something, however small, so that we can put the biggest smiles on our players faces and give them access to this amazing tournament.
Whilst you are thinking about it, please note these quotes from our families who attended our last tournament. We want to provide more great experiences.
It was awesome an amazing first experience of playing proper matches for the girls. Cant even believe how much work goes into making it possible and we are so grateful.
Thank you everyone for a great first tournament. To all the players, coaches, parent/carers and Mike for making it happen, Daisy loved it.
I see Jamie smile so much on this trip and he made some good friends too. He only had one melt down which is amazing for him plus didnt know if he would play the last game but he turned it around and played the best Ive ever seen him play. He has learnt so much in being friendly to others as well.
I have to say it was amazing to see everyone grow as a team over the weekend, each and every player made an important contribution and I felt fortunate to be a part of it.
I personally think it was inclusiveness at its best simply because the whole tournament took care of all abilities but more so because the Werewolves as a team were very supportive of Matthew and other players. From Matthews perspective, he was given an opportunity to make a contribution to the team which we are all very proud of and I believe this boosted his confidence. Thanks to the players.
