Story
Meet Oliver, who has recently been diagnosed with CLN1 Batten’s Disease, a rare, life-limiting genetic condition, just a few weeks before his second birthday. His parents' world has changed overnight. This condition affects the brain and nervous system, and over time, it will slowly take away the skills Oliver is just beginning to discover—his ability to play, to learn, to communicate, and to experience the world in the way every child should.
His family are already starting to see those changes, and it is heartbreaking to watch. Oliver has always been drawn to bubbles, lights, and all things sensory—simple moments that bring him so much joy and comfort. As his needs change, his family want to create a safe, calming sensory space at home where he can continue to feel happiness, peace, and a connection for as long as possible. They are also expecting a second baby very soon, and more than anything, they hope to create a space where both of their children can share special moments—moments they will cherish forever and be remembered with just photos and videos in the future.
At the same time, Oliver’s parents' circumstances have changed significantly. Mom is currently on maternity leave, and Dad is on sick leave from work to care for Oliver and support his family through this incredibly difficult time. This has made things even more challenging. Mom and dad say “This space would mean the world to our family. It would give Oliver comfort, joy, and a place where he can simply be a child. Any support, no matter how small, would help us bring this vision to life and create something truly special for Oliver. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any kindness you can offer” 💛
