Old Tafo Primary Roof Repairs

Organised by SEPIA

Sadly one of the schools we are working with in Old Tafo, Ghana, recently suffered substantial roof damage in a tropical storm. With 5 classrooms exposed and the rainy season now upon us we need to work fast to help them get back in action.

SEPIA is a small family run not for profit charity set up by Michael Clarke (a secondary school teacher) with support from Helen Clarke (a university lecturer) and Aaron, their son. The main purpose of the association is to support educational projects in Africa. Activities include: •Organisation of fund raising events to support educational projects incorporating pupil, staff and school bursaries within African schools. •Collection of donations to support educational projects incorporating pupil, staff and school bursaries within African schools. •Establishment of links to support educational projects within Africa Our main focus at the moment is in Ghana where we are working with several schools in Asafo, Bomponso, Kute Buem and New Tafo in the eastern region.

Story

Old Tafo Primary School in the Eastern region of Ghana is full of life and excitement on a normal day. Children from the local area come here, not just for a chance of education, but also because it gives them a sense of stability in an often unstable life. School offers them a chance for a better future, something more than just being another street seller. Here, many children will also receive their main meal of the day as, for some, finding food at home can be challenge. So, if that is interrupted, as it is now because of the storm damage, then it’s more than a little learning that is lost. SEPIA is working with the village community in Old Tafo to raise funds locally but they will also need our help if we are to get the school running again this year.
