Story
Many of us take the fact that we can enjoy dancing, with all its associated benefits, for granted. However, for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs, opportunities to get active, interact with other people and take pleasure in expressing themselves are often hard to come by.
That’s all about to change for a group of students at Share Community, a South West London charity that runs programmes and activities to support disabled adults to live happier, healthier and more independent lives. They’ve been given the exciting opportunity to work on a creative dance project with RADiate, a group of specialists who currently work with children with additional learning needs and autism at the Royal Acadamy of Dance (RAD). This project will allow RADiate and Share to explore a similar approach with adults, giving Share’s students the opportunity to find freedom and enjoyment by expressing their own voices and individuality through movement and dance.
Tutors from RADiate will work with a group of Share’s students each week throughout the autumn, and the project will culminate in a much-anticipated performance at the Royal Academy of Dance in December.
Creativity is a cornerstone to so much of what we do at Share and this project is just one of the activities we offer to help our students live happier, healthier and more independent lives.
