OUR KEY AIMS
Shetland Indoor Arena Ltd (SIA Ltd) plan to construct a multi-purpose indoor facility which will provide a vital resource for Shetlands equestrian community, as well as a number of other key organisations. We will create a safe, modern space which will allow the growth of equestrian sports in Shetland, providing riders with year-round access to training facilities, and enable groups to access world class trainers and experts to develop the sport. The facility will serve as a focal point for equestrian activity, including veterinary, therapy, equine dentistry, and saddlery and farriery services. The project is to construct an indoor riding facility with associated spaces at a site on the Cunningsburgh Show Ground. This facility will meet all accessibility requirements and will increase access to equestrian sports both by improving accessibility and by extending the riding season to all year round. The facility will include a 60m x 40m riding arena with appropriate surface and lighting, as well as tie up facilities, viewing galleries and spaces for lectures/training, plus basic kitchen, toilet and washroom facilities for users.
The equestrian sector in Shetland has never had a dedicated facility available for year-round use, and the construction of one has been a long term aspiration of the community. Over the years various sites and venues have been utilised by the equestrian community, however for a variety of reasons these locations have become unavailable.
The facility will primarily benefit the equestrian community in Shetland, which is growing all the time. A purpose-built facility will enable the sector to grow & develop, & enable participants to benefit from the following activities and services: Coaching from Community to National Level.
