Shine21's journey began in 2020 and has grown significantly over the years. It now supports over 50 families with a child with Down Syndrome across North Yorkshire. We offer early intervention in areas including Physiotherapy, speech, language and communication, play skills, reading and many more. Our programme aims to give the children a good baseline knowledge before they commence schools. Once they reach school age our support advances to offer bespoke training for school settings, tailored advice and continued intervention sessions. In addition, we offer practical and emotional advice and support to parents in a wide range of areas including Makaton sign language.

Due to increase in families reaching out for support we have outgrown our current premises. Moving to our new premises will allow a greater number of intervention sessions to take place, a designated physiotherapy space and a space for families to meet and share their journeys.

The premises needs a significant amount of TLC to ensure it meets the needs of our charity. This includes replacing all flooring, painting and decorating throughout, reconfiguration of the room layout, new toilet facilities, fire doors and furnishings to name a few. With 13 rooms to renovate we cannot do this without your generous support.

There are three ways you can support to our renovation;

1. Room Sponsorship - We have sponsorship opportunities where you can sponsor the work needed in a particular room. By sponsoring a room or space, you’ll be making a visible and lasting difference to the lives of local children with Down syndrome — while also demonstrating your business’s commitment to inclusion, community and social responsibility.

As a room sponsor you will receive:

• Your name listed on the rooms door

• Promotion on Shine21’s website and social media

• A “Proud to Support Shine21” digital badge for use on your website, email signature and social channels

2. One off donation - A one off donation will fund other costs and work required as part of the renovation.

3. Volunteer your time - volunteering an afternoon to clean, paint a room.
