Supporting children to grow around their grief with hope this Christmas

Campaign by Simon Says

Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for children who have experienced the death of someone they love. While others are celebrating, they may be navigating their grief, missing their special person and feeling lots of emotions.

Simon Says aims is to support children & young people who have a significant person in their life who has died or is dying. Whilst we can’t take away the pain of bereavement, with appropriate support & information, we can help families understand what has happened & gradually gain future hope.

Story

For many families, Christmas is a time of excitement. For grieving children, it can be a painful reminder of the person who has died.

At Simon Says, we work with children and young people across Hampshire who are coping with the death of a parent, brother or sister, grandparent, friend, or any significant person in their lives. Christmas brings its own challenges, the empty chair at the table, the traditions that feel different, and the questions children don’t always know how to ask.

We believe every child deserves honest conversations, consistent support, and somewhere safe to express how they feel. This Christmas, we’re asking for your help to make that possible.

Your donation will directly support the services we provide, including:

• Monthly bereavement support groups

Safe, welcoming spaces where children and their families can meet others who understand what it’s like when someone dies. Group activities help them express their feelings, share memories, and learn coping strategies.

• School and community support

We offer guidance to schools and professionals so they can respond confidently after a child experiences a death. With your help, more teachers and staff can access the tools they need to support grieving pupils.

• Helpline and tailored advice

Our dedicated team offers clear, sensitive information to families and professionals, making sure no one in Hampshire has to navigate grief alone.

• Age-appropriate resources for children and young people

From memory-making ideas to activity packs and guidance on talking about death, your donation helps us create and provide the resources that families rely on.

Why Your Support Matters

When a child experiences a death, their whole world can feel uncertain. Christmas often magnifies that sadness. But with the right support, children can learn to understand their grief, rebuild their confidence, and find hope for the future.

Simon Says does not receive government funding — every service we offer is made possible by people who give generously. Your donation ensures families in Hampshire can access support when they need it most.

How Your Donation Helps

£10 could help provide activity materials for a child at a support group.

£25 could help fund resources for a school supporting a grieving pupil.

£50 could contribute towards running a local support group session for families.

£100 could help fund our helpline so more families receive timely, compassionate guidance.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps us continue offering free bereavement support to children up to the age of 18.

With your support, Simon Says can continue giving children a voice for their grief, and the space, understanding and hope they need as they move forward.

Thank you for supporting bereaved children and young people in Hampshire.
