Help protect Singlers Marsh for future generations
Singlers Marsh has been at the heart of Welwyn Village for hundreds of years.
The fields around Welwyn are increasingly under threat of development for housing and roads. Singlers Marsh has been proposed to host one of these new roads. It will permanently spoil this beautiful and much-loved piece of nature at the heart of our community.
We have been campaigning since 2020 to register Singlers Marsh as a designated "Village Green". This will give it the legal protection it needs to safeguard it for generations to come.
Becoming a Village Green is a legal process. For Singlers Marsh, the application is opposed by the developer who wants to build the road, and by WHBC. If it were unopposed, there would be no legal process.
Our campaign is run by local volunteers, but we need to pay for legal representation at the official inquiry hearings. From Spring 2025 onwards, we estimate that our total costs will be £25,000. This will give Singlers Marsh the best chance of gaining the strongest protection available against being turned into a roadway.
The next phase of the inquiry is a hearing in April 2025. The campaign's costs for being represented at this legal hearing will be nearly £4000.
Please consider donating here to help us cover our costs for this hearing.
We are able to claim Gift Aid on donations that top-up the amounts given. JustGiving is an easy way to donate like this. However, if you are able to gift a larger amount, please contact us directly at save@singlersmarsh.org.uk to discuss other arrangements.
