St Sampson's Church is an amazing building in the small rural parish of South Hill. It holds a special place in the lives of many people and is in need of repairs and improvements The St Sampson's Unlocked project will preserve the heritage of the building and that of South Hill community, by making the building warm , dry , draught free and adding toilet and kitchen facilities. We want the community to use this building for many activities and events. It is a medieval grade 1 listed and has a wealth of fascinating history. There has been a Christian presence here for over a 1000 years. There is a memorial stone dated 500 AD. It is thought probable that St Sampson built a monastery here and Bishop Trelawny was rector here. Please help to keep this church thriving into the future.

Story

Sponsor a Slate for St Sampson’s Church

'The batons are mush and the nails fairy dust'! Says our builder!

We only have a couple more years before catastrophic failure. The roof urgently needs stripping and reslating. We have completed the North Transept roof and now start on the main section.

The middle section of the roof at St Sampson’s Church is due to be repaired soon, and your support can help make this important work possible. By sponsoring a slate, you will be helping to protect a much-loved historic building at the heart of the community.

• £5 sponsors one slate.

• £25 sponsors a slate in your name, with a photo provided to the contributor in the autumn when work begins.

• £50 for businesses making a contribution.

Come and see us at the Medieval Fayre on 27 June at 2pm and discover, through our demonstration model, the difference a new roof will make.

How to donate: Give via JustGiving and if you want a photo of your slate let us know you have donated by emailing stsampsonssouthhill@gmail.com.

You can also visit the church and leave your name and donation in the yellow collection box near the door.
