Story
Karl approached AHAG for support when he struggled to get back on his feet after his relationship had ended. Although he had secured employment that came with accommodation, often called ’tied accommodation’ another resident at the property had been found with illicit drugs at the property, Karl felt unsafe and left with no where to go and his only option was to sleep in his car.
Karl was finding it difficult to get an appointment to access essential medication needed for a lifelong condition that requires constant monitoring. Thankfully Honor was able to link him in with services quickly for support and also connected Karl with Tim, a community psychiatric nurse who works with AHAG. Keen to get back to work, Karl began to look for a new job while Honor supported him in finding an affordable tenancy.
During the Christmas period we were able to book him into a local hotel for some much needed respite from sleeping in his car. This was only possible because of your donations to our Winter Appeal. Without your support and donations Karl would have continued to sleep in his car. When our funding ended, Karl was able to move into emergency accommodation with support from the local outreach team. As we go to print, Karl is waiting for a move into a supported accommodation scheme where he can stay for up to two years before moving on to more permanent home.
