Story

Making Waves for a Cause

We are delighted to have been invited to the 31st annual swimathon organized by Rotary MK. This event has a remarkable history, having raised over half a million pounds since its inception in 1994. Each year, teams of six swim in a relay format for 55 minutes, all in the spirit of raising money for their chosen charities. This year, we are proud to represent SMK, the mayor of Milton Keynes' chosen charity.

The swimathon takes place in a 25-meter pool, and we will be swimming unaided, which adds to the challenge. In 2024, just under 300 swimmers participated, and we are excited to join this vibrant community of supporters.

Our team is a mix of staff, students, and supporters, all coming together for a common cause. However, we face a tough challenge: we are going up against seasoned triathletes. None of us are professional swimmers, and many of us are not even strong swimmers. Despite this, we are determined to give it our all.

Our CEO, Tony Oyakhire, is currently taking swimming lessons to prepare for the event, demonstrating his commitment and inspiring the rest of us. His dedication encourages us to push our limits and strive for our best.

As we approach the day of the swimathon, we are filled with excitement and determination. We know that while we may not be the fastest swimmers in the pool, our collective effort will contribute to a worthy cause. We are committed to raising as much money as possible to help build SMK’s new home, ensuring that we can continue to support our community and those in need.

Together, we will make waves for a cause that matters, and we are ready to embrace the challenge ahead
