We have had an incredible response to our soap campaign and have raised over the £200 that we originally needed to buy the 1000 soaps and provide training to our communities in Malawi.
For just 20p per bar of soap this will enable for one woman per family to gain the knowledge and have the equipment to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This woman will then spread the information they have learnt about how to wash their hands, social distancing, self-isolation and much more to their families and wider community. The majority of our women in our projects in Malawi live in over crowded areas with the lack of access to medical facilities. Therefore if we can prevent the spread of COVID-19 early then more lives can be saved!
After evaluating how the first stage of the project went and getting the feedback from our Malawi Team it was clear that the women now had the understanding of what COVID-19 was and how to stop the spread but they did not have access to running water in their homes and communities.
That is when we decided that we would like to provide pails for at least half the households in each area we work in. By having access to running water then the community will be able to practise the washing hands and hygiene that is needed to stop the spread of COVID-19
.
United Amayi now needs to raise a further £500, bringing our fundraising target to £700 to complete this task and help the most vulnerable communities in Malawi beat the spread of COVID-19!
