SOFEA is committed to supporting people to make a deep connection with themselves and their community. We do this by treating all members of our community with equal compassion, respect and accepting them as they are. we refuse to accept any limitation on what they might achieve. We believe in the restorative benefits of education, work and social justice to support people’s innate resilience to achieve growth and their potential as human beings. Our aims are to: - Feed young people with skills and self-esteem - Feed the workforce with skilled and trained people - Feed the most vulnerable members of the community We will do this by: - Always supporting people disadvantaged in the labour market (back) into work by breaking down barriers and allowing individuals to develop their self‐worth and personal determination to succeed - Helping to reduce social costs by our determination and unflinching commitment to support at-risk individuals to re-engage - Assisting employers in our community to find cost-effective ways to recruit the right workers - Helping to feed those in need in our community - Reducing the amount of food being wasted

Story

Double our space in Milton Keynes. Double our impact. Transform twice as many young lives.

Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and the need for SOFEA's support has never been greater. Young people facing social inequality, disengagement from education, or significant life challenges are being referred to us in record numbers. We are here for them. But right now, our space is not big enough to keep up.

How we help?

At SOFEA, we provide bespoke education, employability support, and therapeutic wellbeing programmes that give young people the qualifications, confidence, and purpose to transform their futures. Alongside this, our young people give back to the community through our social value programmes, including one of the South Midlands' largest surplus food redistribution operations.

What we are fundraising for?

We are expanding our Milton Keynes site to meet a surge in demand driven by growing referrals from schools, police, and hospitals, and local Community Larders that are at capacity and unable to grow without more central infrastructure. Our expanded site will deliver 34% more warehouse space and 80% more cold storage to strengthen our food redistribution operation, while a 300% larger education and wellbeing space will allow us to introduce dedicated new facilities including a gym, kitchen, and therapeutic room.

This will give our young people the holistic environment they deserve. Together, this enables us to grow our education and employability programmes, support more families through Community Larders across the South Midlands, and respond to the scale of need.

Liam joined SOFEA after a series of significant life events caused him to disengage from mainstream education. Through our practical, relationship based environment, he rebuilt his confidence, gained real employability skills, and went on to achieve some of the strongest GCSE results we have ever seen from a young person joining our provision.

"I came from pretty much nothing before coming here. It is almost like a lifeline, especially for someone who thinks there is zero hope. - Liam

"I genuinely wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for SOFEA." — Liv, SOFEA student
