Funding Neuro is working with CureGBM to raise funds to deliver a further pioneering trial of Sonodynamic Therapy to treat people with Glioblastoma.

Sonodynamic Therapy (SDT) is the combination of focused ultrasound and 5-ALA (a commonly used drug in neuroscience) which selectively accumulates in cancer cells. The focused ultrasound delivers energy to the drug inside the cancer cells creating a reaction which breaks down the cancer cell from the inside, leaving normal brain unharmed.

In early US clinical trials, no patient suffered any side effects & ‘overall survival’ for adults with recurrent GBM and children with DIPG doubled, without the need for invasive and costly surgery.

CureGBM is working with Prof Philippe Schucht, a renowned neuro-oncology Professor of Neurosurgery in Switzerland, to deliver an innovative GBM trial using SDT. Patients from the UK will be eligible for treatment with the vision that there will be similar trial centres in the UK in due course.
