Warm Space!

We are funding the running costs of our warm space which provides lunch, coffee and biscuits along with wellbeing activities including art & games. Our community drop in spaces are open to all and are helping to combat social isolation in our city.

Our purpose is to nurture an emerging missional church among adults who are experiencing homelessness or are vulnerably housed in Southend. In partnership with God, each other and the wider family of God, we seek to express church through sharing the unchanging Gospel of Jesus in new ways, including our community cafe, weekly church services and one to one support.

Story

The 57 West charity was started in 2014 by a consortium of local churches to reach out to the significant number of rough sleepers in Southend on Sea. Clarence Road Baptist was formed in 1882, with the new building opened in 1961. For 5 years 57 West rented a hall from Clarence Road and in October 2022 the two separate Baptist churches came together to form one united faith community.

Although founded by local churches and the team are motivated by their Christian faith, we are open for, and welcome those of all faiths and none. Whether that is someone who just wants to offload their concerns or someone who needs signposting to other specialist services such as debt advice, housing or support in accessing mental health services. Many people access our community through different pathways, and we are excited that we now have shared potential to reach others across the city.
