Story

Thank you so much to everyone who gave to support our Women's History Month Fundraiser! Your donation is making a difference to the lives of local women!

This Women's History Month and International Women's Day, we are asking for your support to help us keep helping vulnerable and marginalised women in Southwark and Lewisham.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic effect on the women we work with. At our womens centres, we provide holistic support services for a large community of women experiencing complex needs and those affected by the criminal justice system. These women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, suffering increased poverty, isolation, and difficulty accessing vital support for mental ill health and domestic abuse.

Since the start of the pandemic, we have ramped up our support for women in the community in response to this dramatic increase in need. Alongside our 1:1 advocacy provision, weve been supporting 140 women with wellbeing packs every 2 weeks since March 2020. We have been running an online programme of groups, workshops and creative activities to increase emotional wellbeing, and continued providing vital support to divert women away from custody through our Diversion scheme.

This Womens History Month, we need your help more than ever to keep doing what were doing.

Help us support women through crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic with a small donation

Who we are:

The Southwark and Lewisham Womens Space is a women's project providing specialist support for women affected by the Criminal justice System. Our vision is a community where all women experience safety, dignity, and opportunity. Our mission is to work with women to tackle disadvantage and build fairer futures. We are a project of Pecan, a local community charity in Southwark tackling disadvantage and supporting local people facing crisis.

What we do:

The Southwark and Lewisham Women's Space provides gender-specific and trauma-informed support and one-to-one advocacy support for women who have been affected by the Criminal Justice System. We run a programme of activities aimed at building skills, confidence and community. We offer drop in sessions for crisis support and signposting. We offer a Diversion service where we meet women at the point of arrest to give them the support and resources they need to reduce the rate of reoffence.

Visit our website or follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more updates and information on the work we do.
