Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Avon has been speaking out against gender-based violence for 15 years and is committed to ending domestic abuse whether it's physical, psychological or economic.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence falls between 25th November and 10th December 2019. This year, Refuge (national domestic abuse charity) and Avon are launching a ground-breaking campaign called #SpeakOutListenup to raise awareness about gender based violence and vital funds for Refuge's pioneering work.

Research from Avon indicates 38% of abuse victims are unsure where to seek help and 60% do not believe their claims will be taken seriously. We want people to speak out against domestic abuse and listen up when their friends, colleagues and family bravely share their stories.

We have set an ambitious target to raise £16,000 in 16 days to support Refuges work to end domestic abuse. Simply donate to this page or set up a fundraising page for your own event to be part of Avon and Refuges mission to ensure that violence against women and girls is no longer tolerated or ignored. Organise your own coffee morning, pamper evening, quiz or any other fundraising initiative to help Avon reach their goal.

You can also take part in our 16 Days of Activism by buying an Avon Feisty lipstick. From 22nd November, 50% of all Feisty sales will be donated to Refuge.

The Feisty lipstick is a tribute to Rachael Slack who was murdered by her ex-partner following months of abuse. Rachael is described by sister-in-law Melony as outgoing, bubbly, fun loving, confident, hilarious and intelligent. She recalls how when Rachael was having a tough day she would pull herself together, put bright lipstick on, and make sure she had a fun that day, making the bright Feisty lipstick a fitting tribute to Rachael and her zeal for life.
