The New Malden Spire
The church was built in 1881 and since then the Church Spire has been a feature of New Malden's skyline. In the 1960's it was noticed that the stone work was wearing and to preserve it a concrete cladding was placed over it. This has lasted well for over 50 years but now it is showing the signs of wear and in 2019 a piece of the concrete fell off. The area around the base of the Spire has been fenced off and the church can no longer use the accessible entrance to the church.
An Architect has been employed to produce a scheme of works and companies have tendered for the work, the church is currently in the process of agreeing a contract. As at the 8th of February £71,000 of the £100,000 required has been raised and it is hoped the work will begin in the summer.
