After 35 years of faithful service, the tiles on the roof of the church hall are crumbling and the roof is leaking. Our architect confirms that it needs replacing. At the same time the huge hike in energy costs has made us realise that the heating in the hall is very difficult to control, costs us a fortune and is not eco-friendly.
When, after Christmas, the old boiler for the church building itself also gave up the ghost, it became plain that the church heating also needs urgent attention. We are therefore presented with the opportunity to breathe New Life into our buildings, to make our church and hall fit to serve our community for years to come.
In Isaiah 43, God says to Isaiah, ‘See I am doing something new! Do you not see it?’ We see God at work in our community and our buildings are valuable assets in the sharing of God’s love to those around us as we live out the Gospel story. Can you help us raise the funds we need?
A task force has been established to prepare quotations and apply for grants. We’re happy to say these are available, but most of which offer to match funds that we have raised ourselves. Every pound helps and so we must pull together to achieve our overall goal of £150K. However, to make things manageable, we’re starting with the hall’s roof and our ‘Sponsor a Tile’ campaign. It’s estimated that the roof requires 2,714 tiles. At £25 a tile we could raise £67,850. We're aiming to raise £1,000 of that via this JustGiving page - every little helps! As further funds are raised, we will move on to the heating systems and should excess funds be raised, they will be used for the fabric of St John's church and hall.
