Jon and Sue aren't cyclists as such - but are taking on this 18 mile bike challenge around the Norbital Circular route in Northampton to raise funds for the 11 young people who are taking part in the Hebrides Expedition this summer.
On Friday 7th June Jon and Sue will leave King's Park at 10am and hope to complete their cycle route in 3 to 4 hours - your support would be much appreciated.
The Outer Hebrides, located off the western coast of Scotland, is a group of islands renowned for their untouched landscape, breathtaking beaches, and captivating history. NAYC has historical links with the Scaladale hostel and activity centre, now run by the Lewis and Harris Youth Club Association (LHYCA), and last organised a trip back in 2018.
Throughout the trip, the young people will engage in a variety of cultural and educational activities including meeting and engaging with the community and other young people on the island. They will have the chance to explore historic sites such as the ancient standing stones of Callanish and wander through charming villages filled with local artisans as well as having the opportunity to learn about traditional Scottish music and dance, taste local delicacies, and participate in community events.
The young people will develop skills in leadership, teamwork and confidence through challenging activities, engaging with the local community whilst staying in self-catering accommodation.
We aim to inspire them to dream big, seek new experiences, and embrace diversity. We know that this trip will be a transformative experience, creating lasting memories, but also fostering personal development and equipping them with valuable life skills.
There is a significant investment in the trip that includes the cost of food, accommodation, travel, activities, and staff. We are totally dependent on external funding through securing grants and receiving donations, but with every young person undertaking fundraising too.
All donations gratefully received! Thank you.
