Sometimes a Small Act, Can be the Kindest
At Chipping Barnet Foodbank, we support people facing hardship all year round, but during the Winter months, it can feel more challenging. The cold weather, Christmas festivities and feelings of loneliness can make this season one of the most difficult times for some of our clients.
We work to support people by providing a little bit of hope. Our dedicated team of volunteers and donors like you, help us to provide emergency food parcels, support and a warm welcome when they visit our food bank.
Our Sponsor Me Fun-day is aimed at the children of Barnet to come together and perform small personal challenges to raise funds that we can put to good use all year round. So, can you help us make winter a little less difficult for our clients?
What We Do
Last year, Chipping Barnet Foodbank supported 7,835 individuals and families living in Barnet by providing emergency food parcels. And whilst we do our best to make our sessions feel as merry and light as possible, the sad truth is, no one should need a foodbank. Our clients would rather not have to rely on food parcels, and we are hopeful for a future where we won’t be needed.

Unfortunately, food banks like ours exist all over the country as it is estimated food insecurity affects almost 1 in 8 UK households, rising to 1 in 6 UK households with children. During the colder months, we offer a vital lifeline and source of hope when life can seem that much harder – a time when people have to make the choice of heating their homes or putting food on the table.
You Can Make a Difference
Sponsor Me Fun-day is part of our first ever winter appeal, where we hope to raise enough money to help people in our local community feel included, fed and cared for this winter.
The cost-of-living crisis, rising energy bills and all the other associated costs of winter impact people all over Barnet. Between November and December last year, we distributed 1147 food parcels, which helped 781 adults and 366 children experiencing food poverty.
This year, we want to raise £20,000 to continue providing essential food parcels and support to the most vulnerable members of our borough.
We’re asking the youngest members of our community to set themselves a personal challenge such as a sponsored walk, run, silence, read or anything they think could help them raise money. All funds raised will go towards our winter appeal and allow us to continue supporting people over the next year.
Thank you for being part of the Chipping Barnet Foodbank family.
