Bounce Back Appeal

Organised by SPOONS

Help us to bounce back from the devastating fire at our Middleton storage unit... We've lost everything in our storage unit, it's all gone. Including all the equipment and resources used to deliver our vital services for neonatal families.

Spoons is a charity dedicated to supporting families who experience neonatal care in Greater Manchester. Our aim is to help the family navigate their neonatal journey from admission to the neonatal unit and beyond.

Story

We've lost everything ...

On 18th June 2025, a serious fire started at Storage World in Middleton. This is where we had our storage unit and registered address.

The fire has been difficult for the emergency services to get under control and has continued for days. On Saturday 21st June, we received the devastating news that, for safety reasons, the whole building will have to be demolished - sadly, there is nothing that is salvageable.

We are incredibly grateful that no one has been injured, and in a way we count our blessings that our losses are 'just things'.

We are heartbroken to say though, we have lost everything we owned in terms of stock (except for a few items). From neonatal support packs, resources for going home after NICU, toys and equipment for our baby groups to fundraising buckets, banners, posters, and t-shirts... if it was a physical item, resource, material or piece of equipment, we have lost it.

We no longer have our registered address.

There's a lot of work for our team to do now, to source an alternative address, alternative storage, deal with insurers, process claims, purchase new stock, and find alternatives for our immediate upcoming services. Whilst we know this will impact our team and our service, we will do our very best to limit the impact on the families who need us.

It will take time for us to recover and bounce back. But we are determined. We will be back to providing all our vital services for families very soon... with your help.

Can you support our 'Bounce Back' appeal with a small donation?

Your support will help us plug the immediate gaps in funds until we know what we can recoup from our insurers (this could take a long time). You'll support us to recover quickly and ensure there is limited impact on our neonatal families.

You will help us to continue to provide a high level of support to families in neonatal care, and in the community, as well as our usual diverse range of services.

With your help we can bounce back to a full service immediately... we'll source a new address and storage facility, and start ordering new stock, support materials, leaflets and equipment... rather than waiting.

We're asking that you don't donate physical items to us at this time, please. Whilst we are so grateful for everyone's generosity and thoughtfulness, we don't have capacity to manage, sort and store physical donations, and the items we need to replace are very specific. We will need to manage the process of replacing items very carefully, and only once we have a place to store them. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you so much to everyone in our community who has reached out to us with offers of support. We are beyond grateful! Thank you for your kindness, care and patience. The Spoons' community is an incredibly special one, and we love you all.
