The Cost-of-living crisis and 2024 budget statement have had a huge impact for Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB). In 2025 we’re facing a 200,000 gap in our services budget! We need your help!
There are currently over 2 million people living with sight loss in the UK. A further 250 people are diagnosed each day, and these numbers are expected to double by 2030; that's one person every three minutes.
SRSB and our division Rotherham Sight and Sound (RSS) currently supports over 7,500 people with a visual impairment in Sheffield and sight and/or hearing loss in Rotherham. We are a local independent charity that relies on donations and pledges to fund our work. But recent financial pressures mean that we are facing a £200,000 budget shortfall this year.
This appeal is to help bridge this gap and to provide much needed funding for our Community Advice work which is at the core of everything we do. Our ten Community Advice Officers (CAOs) visit people at home or in our centres to assess their needs and provide access to specialist equipment, technology support, benefits advice, emotional and peer support. We hope you can help?
“By coming regularly to SRSB, it made me realise there IS life after sight loss. The staff are brilliant, so supportive, approachable, caring and friendly. Thanks to you all.” David White, SRSB client
“Carolyn helped me so much, for example, enabling me to organise equipment at home and also with advice around welfare benefits.” Gita Ladher, SRSB client
