Story
On 21st March 2026, our brave veterans will be taking on the ultimate challenge – abseiling down the iconic Falkirk Wheel – to raise vital funds for Sight Scotland Veterans. It's a daunting descent, but nothing compared to the challenges faced by veterans like Gordon "Gordie" Armour.
Gordie, a Navy veteran and lifelong Falkirk resident, was in a dark place after a devastating stroke at forty-nine left him with severe sight loss. "I lost all my confidence and didn't want to leave my house," he recalls. "I was suicidal and didn't know what to do."
But Sight Scotland Veterans gave Gordie a lifeline. Today, he's busier than ever – crafting furniture in the Linburn Centre's woodwork room, never missing a Falkirk FC home game, and serving as Vice Chair of the Falkirk Blind Club. "Sight Scotland Veterans saved my life," Gordie says simply. "They gave me my purpose back and showed me what is still possible."
Every pound raised from our abseil will help more veterans like Gordie find their way back from isolation to independence, from despair to hope.
These veterans took a leap of faith when they served our country. Now they're taking another – descending 115 feet down the Falkirk Wheel – to ensure no veteran faces sight loss alone.
