St Giles Centre Renovation

Our community centre is so much more than a building. It’s the beating heart of our community life. Years of underinvestment have resulted in dilapidation. Renovation will cost £198,000. We need the final £45,000. With your help we can start work.

St. Giles is a welcoming local church at the heart of our community. Alongside regular services, we host activities, groups, and events that bring people together of all ages. From supporting local families to offering a place of friendship and care, we aim to be here for everyone.

Story

Help Us Transform Our Community Centre

Our community centre is so much more than a building. It’s the beating heart of our community life—a welcoming hub that supports people of all ages and backgrounds through a wide range of essential activities.

From bereavement support groups and youth gatherings, to Sunday school, coffee mornings, and local meetings and events that reduce isolation and promote wellbeing, this space brings people together, fosters connection, and offers comfort when it's needed most.

Importantly, it also houses the only accessible toilet facilities for churchgoers, as there are none within the church building itself.

Why We Need Your Help

Sadly, after years of underinvestment, our centre is now in a seriously dilapidated condition. To continue—and expand—our outreach to the wider community, we urgently need to fully refurbish the building to make it safe, accessible, energy-efficient, and fit for purpose.

Our contractor, working closely with our architect, has provided a comprehensive estimate of £198,000 for the refurbishment works.

We’ve already made great progress:

• Full planning permission has been secured and plans are complete (£14,000 already spent)

• We’ve raised £39,000 through quiet fundraising

• We’ve received firm pledges of £65,000

• We’re contributing from our general reserves

But we still need to raise at least £45,000 to bring this vision to life.

Our Vision

We plan to completely renovate the centre to create a modern, inclusive space that serves the evolving needs of our congregation and local community.

Key improvements include:

• This much-needed refurbishment will address years of underinvestment, bringing the building up to modern safety and accessibility standards

• As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are actively exploring the installation of a low-carbon heat pump system. This would support our contribution to net-zero goals and demonstrate our environmental responsibility to the local community.

• Providing continued access to essential toilet facilities for all who attend services and events

The Impact

This refurbishment will enable us to support and expand our vital community services. It’s about more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about creating a safe, welcoming, and sustainable space where people feel seen, supported, and connected. It will ensure the centre remains a viable, low-maintenance resource—fit for purpose now and into the future

How You Can Help

We hope to begin work on the refurbishment in mid to late 2026, and we can’t do it without your support.

Your donation—big or small—will bring us one step closer to preserving and transforming a space that matters deeply to so many.

Together, we can ensure that our centre continues to serve as a vital lifeline and place of belonging for years to come.

Please give what you can—and share our page to help spread the word. Thank you.
