💜 More Than Fibro – Standing Together in Crisis

More Than Fibro – SCIO is a small UK charity supporting over 14,000 people living with Fibromyalgia. We provide advocacy, mental‑health support, community groups, subsidised therapies, a helpline, and our hub at Parkhead Forge.

More Than Fibro was established in 2020, the Founder is Sharon Turnbull. Sharon has lived with Fibromyalgia since 2007 as well as other long-term conditions. Sharon was made redundant in 2017 and after 16 years in the same job was a little lost about her next career moves so she opted for various voluntary work, the most notable being with Citizens Advice Bureau and a non-profit supporting people with Fibromyalgia. In 2020 following a battle with mental health Sharon decided to branch out on her own and bring to the Fibro community a service she knows they desperately need. First, we offer online support across all social media including a closed support page for people living with Fibromyalgia and their carers, there are virtual coffee chats twice weekly on Microsoft Teams. We also hold support meetings in numerous communities with a variety of speakers to help you access the support that you need. Second, Sharon has tailored her own advocacy service, using her knowledge and experience gained working with CAB, to be able to deliver a unique service to help people living with Fibromyalgia identify and access the benefits they may be entitled to, the service is a huge success and Sharon believes this is due to her insight into living with Fibromyalgia and the challenges it presents daily.

Story

💜 More Than Fibro – Standing Together in Crisis

Supporting people living with Fibromyalgia across the UK

More Than Fibro – SCIO began in 2020 as a small Facebook group of just 12 people looking for understanding, connection, and hope. Today, we are a lifeline for over 14,000 members across the UK. What started as a conversation has grown into a community — and then into a charity that changes lives every single day.

We now provide:

• A highly successful advocacy service

• Community support meetings across the country

• Subsidised Reiki sessions for pain and wellbeing

• A warm, welcoming hub at Parkhead Forge

• A dedicated helpline

• Online support for those who can’t attend in person

• And a mental health support worker offering vital emotional care

For a small charity, this is an extraordinary achievement. But right now, we are facing the hardest moment in our history.

⚠️ We Are in Crisis

Despite the impact we make, we are struggling to survive.

• Our ongoing bills are becoming impossible to meet

• Our senior team have gone months without expenses being paid

• Our rent and essential costs are falling behind

• Funding applications are constant, but refusals far outweigh awards

• Competition for grants is fierce, and small charities like ours are often overlooked

It is heartbreaking to be doing something so needed, so unique, and so effective — yet be fighting just to keep the doors open.
