We are a new charity that delivers TheHorseCourse Restart to people in Devon who are struggling with their mental health and/or have behavioural / sensory issues including autism.

Our courses are much needed and really work. Over 80% of restart participants go on to have better relationships with others, improved self-belief, improved engagement with school/training/or work, and they have fewer problematic behaviours.

Our courses are challenging yet fun, and develops the following 8 core psycho-social skills through action-learning rather than talking:

• Calmness

• Assertiveness

• Communication

• Responsibility (for emotions, thoughts and behaviour)

• Engagement/Confidence as a learner

• Focus & Perseverance

• Empathy

• Realistic Analysis & Planning

Learning is through a series of un-mounted tasks and challenges that increase in difficulty through the sessions – eg. getting a horse to kick a giant ball, jump a barrel, stand on a pedestal, run turn and stop in harmony with the participant with no ropes attached. Our horses are carefully selected and highly trained to provide clear and obvious feedback, requiring participants to model the 8 skills for the horse to positively respond and complete each challenge.
