St Davids Cathedral - Keep Us Standing!

St Davids Cathedral is embarking on once-in-a-generation repairs to ensure our beautiful building will survive into the future. Time and weather are taking their toll on this iconic building: we need your help to ensure we continue to welcome all.

Our Cathedral is set on a Pembrokeshire peninsula upon the site of the monastery founded by St David, patron saint of Wales. This splendid building erected to the glory of God remains a vibrant, living church offering a place for prayer and a destination of pilgrims of all faiths and none.

Story

Nobody forgets their first sight of St Davids Cathedral, looking down on it from the steep hill above at this extraordinary building nestling in its green valley close to the Pembrokeshire Coast. Heart-stopping, uplifting and life-affirming, this iconic building is Wales' pilgrim heart.

So many visitors comment on how good the building looks, but behind the scenes, we're struggling! Those of you who have visited when the Pembrokeshire weather is at it's dramatic worst will probably have spotted the strategically placed buckets... but those leaks are just the tip of the iceberg. The tower needs major works to replace its iron tie bars, and replace the well-meaning but now disastrous cement mortar used in the 20th century for repairs. The impact of climate change on the roof and gutters needs to be addressed for the long term. The very stone of which the cathedral is built is crumbling due to the power and frequency of the storms we are now experiencing.

We are embarking on a huge, once-in-a-generation programme of works made up of hundreds of large and small repairs which will mean the Cathedral will still be standing, inspiring and welcoming, for another quarter of a century - and perhaps a half-century.

Every donation truly makes a difference to our future. It doesn't matter how large or small it is: in the words of St David himself, "Do the little things."
