Story

Esme is a wonderful happy and bright 8-year-old girl from Swindon. At the age of 12 months Esme was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy which affects her legs mainly making it difficult for her to stand and walk unaided.

In 2019, Esme had the life changing operation, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) at Bristol Children’s Hospital which removed the spasticity from her legs. We fundraised in 2018 for Just4Children and as a result of #teamesme she was able to access vital therapy and have access to equipment and bespoke orthotic treatment immediately. Esme has worked so hard in the past 5 years which has enabled her to go from taking a few unaided steps, to now only needing her AFO's to walk independently.

Right now, we are focusing on accessing the ongoing therapies and treatments she needs to enjoy life to the full as every 8-year-old girl should do. She loves going to school, brownies, swimming, plays football, horse riding and most recently skiing! She takes her daily challenges in her stride. However, as she gets older, growth spurts can cause problems for children with Cerebral Palsy, which could result in the need for further surgery for Esme.

It is paramount that she can continue her necessary therapies, equipment and tailor-made orthotic treatment to allow her to remain as independent as possible, therefore we are asking for your continued support to allow this happen.
