Steve’s Virtual Trans Canadian Highway for Active Against Cancer

Since being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in September 2022, Steve has faced a challenging journey, and he firmly believes that without Active Against Cancer (AAC), the outcome could have been very different.

Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity funds specialised equipment, training and services going above and beyond the provision of the NHS to help enhance treatment, facilities and the environment for the benefit of staff, patients, service users and families across our Hospitals and wider Community.

Story

Since being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in September 2022, Steve has faced a challenging journey, and he firmly believes that without Active Against Cancer (AAC), the outcome could have been very different.

AAC became a vital part of Steve’s life, providing tailored exercise, strength, belief, and support at a time when it was needed most. To give something back and help raise both funds and awareness for this incredible service, Steve will begin a virtual challenge on 1 January 2026 to walk, run, and indoor cycle the length of the Trans-Canada Highway—7,821 kilometres from St John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria on Vancouver Island, aiming to complete it within the year.

Canada has long held personal significance for Steve, and it was after returning from a trip there in 2022 that his cancer was unexpectedly discovered, despite having no symptoms. This challenge is intended to be tough, because cancer is tough, and services like AAC make a life-changing difference for those facing that journey. Any support or sharing of Steve’s challenge would be hugely appreciated, helping to future-proof AAC for others who will need it, just as Steve did.
