The Branch have been overwhelmed by donations and interest in the project and thank everyone who has helped thus far.
The Dementia Resource Centre will open in Alloa Clackmannanshire in the Spring of 2020 providing facilities and support for both People living with Dementia and carers alike to service Forth Valley.
Dementia is Scotlands biggest public health issue. There are around 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland and it is now estimated that 20,000 people will be diagnosed with the condition every year by 2020. Within the Stirling and Clackmannanshire area there are 2,500 people with a diagnosis and many more living with dementia. Dementia is an illness which affects the brain making it harder to remember things or think as clearly as before. Dementia can affect every area of human thinking, feeling and behaviour but each person with dementia is different depending on what part of the brain is affected.
Living with dementia can cause a feeling of isolation and a lack of confidence. A Dementia Resource Centre in the Stirling and Clackmannanshire area will deliver a much needed life-line. Offering activities tailored to the needs of families living with Dementia in an environment of specialised training and support. Working in partnership with the local community is an important part of the centre to share an understanding of the disease.
